Kindle Fire
I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas!! An early Christmas gift, that is, since we’ll all be in Chile for the holiday and the holiday always feels different there. Christmas in summer will always be strange to me.
So, I love it. I think this little device will revolutionize everything for me. I don’t understand what people have against e-readers - in my opinion, there is room for both modes of book readings (on a device like the Kindle and in tangible, paper form). But what I realllyyyyy love is being able to read articles on my Kindle, have all my articles with me wherever I go. This is invaluable when in grad school and constantly having to read articles. I’m going to save so much money not having to print everything off. And to be honest, I really enjoy reading novels on the Kindle. I find myself going through it faster, keeping me from being as distracted. It almost pulls me to get to the next page.
The first book I ever read on a Kindle was Dracula, and I actually read it on the Kindle app on my Droid. I loved it! It was like novel in bite size form. When you get the Kindle Fire you get one month free of Amazon Prime and for kicks I “rented” Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins from the Kindle Lending Library. I’m just racing through it and loving it, both the book and the reading experience.
In between reading Catching Fire I’m reading articles on there for my classes and thesis research. You can e-mail yourself documents that show up on the Kindle - it’s incredible! Also, with Calibre you can convert .pdfs to Kindle format .mobi. Yup, I’m quite satisfied and in love with my little Kindle. I bought a cover that resembles a journal, and it makes me that much more excited to hold it. I might even start sleeping with it beside me…
